Marrs on Main – The Kitchen

If I’m being honest, our newest venture – Marrs on Main – was one of those “the door just opened” opportunities that we couldn’t say no to, but, I wanted to say no at first. We didn’t have the bandwidth for a new store. We didn’t have enough product to fill this new store’s 6,000 square feet of space. And, that 6,000 square feet felt like a cold, uninviting industrial warehouse. The first time I walked through the doors, I said “nope. This is daunting and overwhelming.” (I didn’t even take a photo – this was after we had started demo…)

But, I also knew we deeply love our community and have always been committed to our beloved downtown Bentonville square. It’s the most charming place and one of the many reasons we fell in love with this area years ago (also where we started our historic home renovation work and where we lived before the farm). We have always wanted a space there for community gatherings and to offer our favorite locally artisan-made and globally-collected vintage items.
Once we decided we were in, we got to work. My design vision was simple: I wanted everyone who walks through the doors to feel like they’re stopping by a friend’s home, not a store. I wanted it to feel warm and collected.

After Dave built a wall with arched openings into the “living room,” I was able to design my dream kitchen… the secret to creating a timeless kitchen is to incorporate organic elements and natural finishes. The Marrs on Main “Jenny Kitchen” has everything I love: white oak cabinetry, handmade brass sconces, un-laquered cabinet hardware and a handmade natural brass faucet. The (stunning) Italian marble countertop and handmade sink are all perfectly accented by my very favorite gray-blue Italian ILVE range. The range is the focal point of this kitchen and I think she’s a showstopper.

(This is the same range we have in our own home and I knew I had to have one at the store. I love cooking on this range and I love how beautiful she is!)

My prayer for this place is for it to be a beacon of light for our community and a welcoming place where everyone leaves feeling a little brighter for having been here. May the beauty created by artisans and artists here shine brightly into the world.
I hope you can stop by and visit us soon!
